Having been in the design game for a few years now I’ve learned to understand the importance on networking. I’m not talking about all the people you know on LinkedIn or handing out business cards. I mean really getting to know people and being introduced to, or introducing them to others and having meaningful conversations. In Jacksonville the design community is fairly small and there is a very communal feel to it so when my good buddy Ryan King informed me on his new venture I was happy to learn he wanted me to help design a logo for his new media company Drawing Lines Media Group.

After some initial talks with the team (Drawing Lines consists of some really talented people BTW) I had some direction to go in but also a lot of freedom. I initially came up with a few designs that were extremely different from one another and we slowly whittled out way down to their main logo. They wanted the logo to stand out from the crown of busy logos so we went with an approach to make the logo appear elegant and timeless. I’ve always liked vintage logos that used an X as a divider and I thought it would work perfect for Drawing Lines since 1. It uses lines, and 2. It shows an intersection which represents paths crossing. By keeping the design minimal and clean I feel it gives it a classic look that will have a long shelf life.

As a bonus they wanted to use one of the other versions I came up with that is a much more modern look and uses a custom typeface I created. The secondary design below will primarily be used on their video projects.

In all, this was a great project to work on and I will most likely be working with these guys in the future since I feel we’ve been “drawn together.”

One of my favorite local bands, Wild Life Society asked me to create a icon for their band. They wanted something similar to the iconic “yes” logo so I whipped up this treatment for them. This was a super fun little project to work on for a good group of musicians, check out there music and support your local bands.

I just finished creating this logo for Grilled Cheese Bandits, a gourmet grilled cheese food truck out in San Francisco. This was a really fun logo to work on and the owners of the company are two awesome guys, one is an old school punk rocker and the other is a metal head (my kind of people). They wanted their logo to have a western bandit/outlaw look and feel without being too cheesy… sorry I had to go there. This logo is also for a food truck so I wanted it to be simple and bold so it would be easy to read and recognizable from  a distance. I also went with a bright color scheme to make this logo really pop. In all this was one of those great logo projects that are a blast to work on, and if you find yourself in SF, get a grilled cheese sandwich from these guys.

I’m always super excited about working with Red Bull because they put on some really awesome events and the Red Bull King of the Campus was no exception. I had the opportunity to create the first place trophy which can be seen in the video. Enjoy.

My buddy Colin Adkins needed a flyer designed for his upcoming acoustic set and I thought it would be a great chance to do a little design experimenting. The show is Tuesday, March 6th at Dos Gatos for those of you in the Jacksonville area. He will be playing with Drew Bond of Opiate Eyes and this should be a good little show.

For the design I wanted to something a bit weird and have a somewhat native american/neo spirit animal look to it, if that makes any sense. Anyways, it was a fun little project to work on and giving myself a quick turn around (1 day) can really get the creative juices flowing.

I recently had the opportunity to work with an old art director of mine, Andre Macris. He asked for some help on a project in his historic neighborhood of Springfield. It turns out a disc golf course was being built at Klutho Park and they needed a logo. Klutho Park which was created between 1899 and 1901 is a really cool historic park in Jacksonville and I always like to work on projects in the local community so I jumped on board. What I originally thought would be a logo project turned into an overall branding campaing for the Springfield Disc Golf Course which included a logo, welcome sign, score cards and tee signs.

Beginning with the logo, I knew that the park is historic and very iconic to a lot of locals so I made sure to pay repect to the classic stylings and designs that still remain, especially the balustrades which are incorporated into the bottom portion of the logo. The type I used for “Springfield” mimicked some old carved signage above many of the bridges crossing Hogans Creek which runs along the park. I also included a disc golf basket with the number 18 to let people know that it was an 18 hole course. I also wanted to keep the logo circular so it could easily be printed onto discs.

Once that was wrapped up I moved onto creating a welcome sign which included a map, rules, hole info and a few other bit of info for players. In addition, I created a score card so players can keep track of their scores. In all this turned out to be a large project with large and small elements designed to pay respect to the historic park but be fresh enough to grab peoples attention and inform them on the game of disc golf.
